Support Smarinita & Dhruvank's Cause - Donate To UMMEED

Ummeed, meaning ‘hope,’ was set up in 2001 to help children with, or at risk of, developmental disabilities reach their full potential and be included in society.

Developmental disabilities can range from visible conditions such as Down syndrome or cerebral palsy to subtle ones such as learning disabilities and autism. Whether obvious or subtle, the child struggles to adapt at home, in the school, or even with friends, and can often not articulate the daily challenges she is facing.

Poverty-related factors such as malnutrition and lack of stimulation are well-known to increase the risk of some developmental disabilities. Early and appropriate intervention can make a huge difference, helping them adapt early, thus reducing the impact of the disability.

There is thus a crucial need to reach out early and reach out wide.

The 55 Km Walk for UMMEED 2022

Every January, Ummeed organizes a 55 Km Walk on the beaches of South Goa (this time, on January 22, 2022). The idea is to get together many enthusiastic and engaged people to help spread awareness about the cause of children with developmental disabilities and raise funds for Ummeed.

Raising funds for Ummeed this year is even more crucial than in previous years because overall funding (such as through CSR) has taken a huge hit. It, therefore, becomes imperative for us as concerned individuals to do our bit and support this cause. Remember that children with disabilities, especially those from poor socioeconomic backgrounds, are amongst the most vulnerable of all.

I have committed to raising INR 2,00,000 (~USD 2900/ GBP 2300) for Ummeed. Please support me to show your solidarity and support for children experiencing developmental disabilities.

Why does UMMEED need your support?

Ummeed is one of a handful of organizations in India offering quality clinical services to children with developmental disabilities. Over 80% of Ummeed's clinical sessions are provided at reduced costs to children from low/mid-income families.

Ummeed builds capacity in low-resource organizations all over India through its training programs so that no child with disability is left behind.

Ummeed complements its direct services and training efforts with awareness initiatives to shift attitudes and create a more inclusive society.

During the COVID-19 crisis, the team at Ummeed quickly adapted their intervention model to an online virtual format, ensuring that services continued uninterrupted while keeping in mind the safety of its children, families, and trainees.

As a not-for-profit organization, Ummeed relies on individuals' and organizations' generosity to do more and go beyond.

It is my challenge not only to Walk up to 55 Km but also to raise money to support Ummeed. Your contribution will directly impact Ummeed's work and thus children and families experiencing disabilities

What do you get in return?

  • The joy of making a difference to the quality of life of a child and family experiencing a developmental disability
  • The satisfaction of contributing to a cause that supports some of the most vulnerable children around us
  • A tax exemption receipt (India and USA)
  • And of course, the joy of helping me reach my goal

Do also talk to your friends and family about my campaign to help me raise more funds. And please share my campaign link on your social media pages to spread the word!
